Why people use it
Every society in one place
Academic societies, sports clubs, cultural and faith groups, media societies (Insanity, Orbital, Rhubarb), gaming, comedy, the Give It A Go schedule. All searchable in one place.
Discover what you missed
Most freshers join two or three societies at the activities fair and find out about the others six months later. Browsing the full list takes ten minutes and changes that.
See what each one does
Every listing has a description, contact details and a link to the SU page. So you can work out whether the chess society is competitive or social before you turn up.
Linked to events
Every society's upcoming events appear on its listing, so you can see when the next meeting or taster session is before you commit to anything.

"Freshers fair was overwhelming. This let me look through everything properly afterwards."
"Didn't realise there were so many cultural societies. Found my community through this app."
Frequently asked questions
How many societies are at Royal Holloway?
More than 100 societies and sports clubs are registered with the Royal Holloway Students' Union (SURHUL). The exact number changes year to year as new societies form and dormant ones close, but the app shows the current registered list.
Are all RHUL societies in the app?
Yes, as long as they are registered with the SU. If a society exists informally without going through the SU, it will not appear here (because it is not officially recognised). Most active societies are registered.
How do I join a society?
Tap into the listing and follow the link to the SU page, where you can join by paying a small annual membership (typically £3 to £10 depending on the society). Some sports clubs charge more to cover kit and inter-uni fixtures.
Can I join a society mid-year?
Yes. Most societies welcome new members year-round. Freshers week and Refreshers in January are the most active joining periods, but you can rock up to a regular meeting at any point and join then.
What are the media societies at RHUL?
Insanity Radio (the campus radio station, which has a 24/7 broadcast licence and is heard across Egham), Orbital (the student magazine), and Rhubarb TV (the student television society). All three accept new members year-round and don't require prior experience.
Does the SU "Give It A Go" programme appear here?
Yes. Give It A Go events (one-off, no membership required, often free or cheap) appear in the Events tab and on the relevant society's listing. It is the easiest way to try something without committing to a society.
How do I start a new society?
The SU has an application process for setting up a new society. The basics: find a few people who would join, write a constitution and pitch the SU. Details are on su.rhul.ac.uk; the app links you there from the Societies tab.
Is there a society for [my niche interest]?
Probably. The full list runs to gaming, anime, board games, debate, MUN, three a cappella groups, cheese, tea appreciation, taekwondo, ultimate frisbee, and plenty more. Filter or search the Societies tab to find out.
How often is the list updated?
Society listings refresh regularly from the SU data, so new societies appear as they get registered and dormant ones drop off. The next freshers period typically sees a wave of new registrations.
